Performance Evaluation

Focus Groups

To work efficiently towards the short-term NCTS objects, i.e., to nurture the next generation of theoretical scientists in Taiwan and to encourage interaction and collaboration among participants, it is essential in the peer assessment of each focus group to identify

  1. the highlights of recent research results,
  2. the on-going joint efforts/projects among all active members of the focus group including collaboration with experimental groups,
  3. new ideas/projects as the result of the scientific activities of the focus group
  4. the active participation of students, postdoctoral associates, and junior scientists (in particular, those who recently completed advanced degrees or were appointed to research or academic position),
  5. international visitors, either long-term or short-term, who are involved with the on-going or planned scientific activities or projects (including new ideas inspired by the discussion with the international visitors),
  6. active projects involving international collaboration,
  7. active participants from university or other institutes with limited research resources/opportunities and their collaborative works with other members of the focus group,
  8. published works and presentations (both invited and contributed) at conferences or other academic institutes attributed to the scientific activities supported by NCTS through focus group.

Working Groups

Working groups are organized in order to promote smaller or new fields in Taiwan. The emphasis in the evaluation of a working-group performance differs from that of a focus group. It is essential in the peer assessment of each working group to state

  1. a summary of the budget allocation in organizing activities, supporting members to attend international schools or conferences, and inviting visitors,
  2. the active participation of students, postdoctoral associates, and junior scientists (in particular, those who recently completed advanced degrees or were appointed to research or academic position),
  3. active participants from university or other institutes with limited research resources/opportunities,
  4. student training, incubation of young generation physicists, and new ideas/projects as the result of the scientific activities,
  5. international visitors, either long-term or short-term, who are involved with the on-going or planned scientific activities or projects (including new ideas inspired by the discussion with the international visitors).
